How to Choose Knit Fabric for Women’s Fashion Collections

Choosing knit fabric for a fashion collection is about more than color. Buyers need to compare fiber content, GSM, width, stretch, recovery, finishing and the final garment use.

Start with the garment

T-shirts and soft dresses often need single jersey or modal cotton blends. Hoodies and casualwear need French terry or fleece. Tailored dresses, trousers and skirts may need ponte, scuba or interlock for structure.

Check technical details

Ask for composition, GSM, width, shrinkage, color fastness and MOQ before quoting. If the fabric contains spandex, confirm stretch direction and recovery. For export orders, buyers may also need OEKO-TEX or other testing documents depending on the market.

Use samples correctly

A4 samples are useful for first review, while yardage swatches are better for drape, sewing and wash testing. After selecting a fabric, confirm lab dips and pre-production samples before bulk production.
